St.John’s of Otumoetai is lead by a group of committed members who have a heart for the ongoing life of the parish and also the community in which it exists. Each member brings particular gifts and interests that together make this parish well suited to nurture the imperative to love and be loved.

Parish Team_Our Vicar

  • Reverend Erice Fairbrother

    Name:Reverend Erice Fairbrother

    Role:Vicar

    Our Vicar comes to us from her previous position as the Vicar of St Clare’s, Flaxmere since 2004 and, before that, three years as Vicar at All Saints, Dunedin. Flaxmere is on the western side of Hastings.

    Erice’s declared and tested strengths are her:
    •Love and sharing of liturgical life;
    •Community facing ministry;
    •Pastoral care;
    •Biblical literacy and understanding;
    •Theological development;
    •Families, children and youth.

    In her own words “those strengths and skills come from a lifetime of commitment to the gospel of Jesus Christ. They reflect an experience of having known only a God who is faithful, forever loving and forgiving. It is this that is at the heart of my desire to lead others to that experience, and through that, reach out to the world that God so loved and which forms the basis of the Mission to which we are called”. 

Parish Team_Our Wardens

  • Name: Evan Turbolt

    Role: Our Vicar's Warden

    Evan Turbott is also Chancellor of the Diocese. Evan has been a Lawyer in practice since 1972 as well as one-time farmer on a small holding for 12 years. He is also involved as a Rotarian, Council member of the Automobile Association Bay of Plenty and a former chairman. He is currently in year 4 of his Education For Ministry course. Evan is a keen trout fisherman and rider of motorbikes.

  • Name: Betty Owen

    Role: The Peoples Warden

    Betty Owen has been involved in the life of St John’s for many years. Betty’s life has been one of service in many organisations and service clubs. She is a registered nurse who actively participated in the administration of nursing services in the Tauranga area. In retirement Betty enjoys people, bowls and travel.
